Xindian District

Xindian, also Sindian or Hsintien (Chinese新店 区, pinyin Xindian Qū, Tongyong Pinyin Sindian Cyu, W.-G. Hsin -tien Chü, PEH oē - jī Sin - Tiam ), a district (区, Qū ) is the city New Taipei in the north of the island of Taiwan with nearly 300,000 residents.

Location

Xindian is located immediately south of Taipei at the Xindian River. In the resort are home to many commuters who work in Taipei. While the northern part Xindians is densely built up with apartment complexes, reaches the southern part into the forested central mountains of Taiwan. In this area there are numerous hiking trails. The Xindian River is in the urban area by a weir to Bitan Lake (碧潭), a popular tourist destination, dammed.

Traffic

Xindian is connected via the "green" Xindian Line to the Metro network Taipei. Through the town to the south of Taipei extending Highway 3 leads (国 道 三号, English National Freeway No.. 3).

History

In the 18th century during the Qing period, traders from Fujian settled on the road from Taipei to Wulai, to trade with the native people living there by the tribe of the Atayal trade. Later the settlement was given the name Xindian (新店), which translates as " new shop " means.

As a suburb of Taipei, the population Xindians took from the middle of the 20th century too, which meant that the place in 1980 was awarded the official status of a city (市, Shì ). Between 1956 and 1992, was Xindian seat of the administration of the areas controlled by the Republic of China, part of Fujian province, without being a part of the province. On 25 December 2010, the city lost its autonomy and Xindian went as a district on the newly established city of New Taipei.
