Xindian Creek

The Xindian (新店溪Chinese, Pinyin Xīndiànxī ) is a river in northern Taiwan.

Course

The Xindian rises in Shuangxi district in the east of the city of New Taipei City and undergoes a length of 82 km, the cities of New Taipei City and Taipei. Its main tributaries are the Beishi, the Nanshi and the Jingmei. The Xindian flows from its origin steadily westward and takes its name from the suburb of Xindian, which he happens. In Banqiao the Xindian combined with the Dahan River to Tamsui.

Importance

The Xindian plays a very important role in the supply of drinking water nordtaiwanischen cities. According to official data 97.5 % of the drinking water comes in the Greater Taipei from the Xindian. This service is provided by the Feicui Dam, to where the river is dammed at Pinglin over a length of 510 m. In Xindian District, the river expands to Bitan Lake, a popular recreational area of Greater Taipei.
