Beishi River

The Beishi (Chinese北 势 溪, Pinyin Běishìxī ) is a river in northern Taiwan.

History and significance

The Beishi originates on the slopes of Mount Sanfangxiang in the district Shuangxi the city of New Taipei City and flows for a distance of 50 km, the districts Pinglin and Shiding and joins in the territory of the county Xindian with the flow Nanshi to the river Xindian, which in turn one of the main tributaries of the Tamsui river is.

In the district Shiding is the Beishi to Feicui Dam, the second largest reservoir in Taiwan dammed, which is of great importance for drinking water supply in the north of the island. In the application of the dam, many known for their beauty river valleys of Beishi were flooded.

On the western exit of the reservoir is the Guishan hydropower plant.
