Shiding District

Shiding (Chinese石碇 区, pinyin Shiding Qū, PEH oē - jī Chio̍h -TIA ⁿ Khu ) is a district of the city of New Taipei City in northern Taiwan, Republic of China.

Location and meaning

The predominantly hilly district is located on the southeastern edge of the Taipei Basin. It is drained by the river Beishi. Its neighboring districts are in the west and Xindian Shenkeng, Xizhi in the north, in the east and in the south Pinglin Pingxi and Wulai. Shiding is one of the largest surface area and thin besiedeltsten districts of New Taipei. Due to the hilly surroundings, there is little agriculture. In the 20th century Shiding gained a certain importance for its coal reserves; degradation was, however, strongly reduced in the last decades of the century and closed in 2000 completely. Today Shiding is mainly for lying for the most part on its territory Feicui Dam, the second largest reservoir in Taiwan known.

In Shiding the Buddhist Huafan University is located.
