Biblical figure

The biblical narrative in the book of Judges tells of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite (Judg. 4.11 EU): She killed, according to Ri 4.17 to 24 EU an enemy of the people of Israel, the Canaanite Sisera generals from Hazor. He had taken refuge after a lost battle against the Israelites, and Barak the judge Deborah in the tent lifter. There Jael covered him with a rug to ( ostensibly to hide it), and then drove him with a sledgehammer a tent peg through his temple.

The prophetess Deborah had foretold the fact, and it boasts Jaël in Deborahlied. It is one of the oldest surviving seals in the Old Testament. In the song Jael is seen as a hero for the people of Israel (Judg. 5.24 to 31 EU). Like Mary, the mother of Jesus, she gets a Magnificat ( Canticle ): " Blessed be Jael among women " (verse 24). By their act Jael gave the people Israel forty years of peace; she loved the Lord and Israel is with the rising sun and its power compared ( v. 31).
