Yamagata University

The University of Yamagata (Japanese山形 大学, Yamagata daigaku, in short: Yamadai (山大) ) is a state university in Japan. The main campus is located in Kojirakawa -machi, Yamagata, Yamagata Prefecture.

History

The university was founded in 1949 by the merger of five ( four public and one prefecture ) schools. The five were:

  • High school Yamagata (山形 高等学校, Yamagata Kōtō Gakko, founded in 1920 ),
  • The normal school Yamagata (山形 师范学校, Yamagata shihan Gakko, founded in 1878 ),
  • Youth Normal School Yamagata (山形 青年 师范学校, Yamagata his shihan Gakko, founded in 1922 ),
  • The pilot Yonezawa (米 沢 工业 専 门 学校, Yonezawa Kōgyō Semmon Gakko, founded in 1910 ), and
  • The prefectural agricultural and forestry business school Yamagata (山形 県 立 农林 専 门 学校, Yamagata - kenritsu Norin Gakko Semmon, founded in Tsuruoka, 1947).

They first came into five sites of the predecessors. The three of them ( Kojirakawa, Yonezawa and Tsuruoka ) take today. The museum in Yonezawa campus is the former main building of the Technical Yonezawa, built in 1910 ( the present building from Yonezawa Station has been designed after the model of the school building ). The Department of Education had two locations ( in Midori -chō and Hirashimizu, Yamagata ) and moved in 1963 in the Kojirakawa campus ( the former location of the high school Yamagata ). In the former campus of the Faculty of Education ( Midori -chō ), there is the prefectural branch museum of the history of education Yamagata (山形 県 立 博物馆 分 馆 教育 资料 馆, the former main building of the Normal School Yamagata, built in 1901, 38 ° 15 ' 16 "N, 140 ° 20' 53 " O38.254352777778140.34816666667 ).

The university was opened with four faculties: humanities and natural sciences, education, engineering and agricultural science. In 1967, the Faculty of Humanities and Natural Sciences was divided into two faculties. In 1973, the Faculty of Medicine was newly established. In 2005, the Faculty of Education of the Faculty of Regional Education and Culture (Japanese地域 教育 文化 学部, Eng. Faculty of Education, Art and Science ).
