Yechiel Yaakov Weinberg

Rabbi Yechiel Yaakov Weinberg ( also Yechiel Yaakov Weinberg, Yehiel Yaakov Weinberg or Jehiel Jacob Weinberg, * 1884 in Ciechanowiec, Poland, † 1966 in Montreux, Switzerland ) was an Orthodox rabbi, Posek, Talmudic scholar and Rosh Yeshiva (Dean of the of Rabbi Esriel Hildesheimer rabbinical Seminary established in Berlin), author ( among other things ) the seridei eish ( " remnant of fire", response collection, 1961 et seq.)

Life

He was born in Poland, studied and worked in Lithuania and went after the outbreak of the First World War to Germany and studied at the University of Giessen (Final Dr. phil. ), Taught at of Esriel Hildesheimer 1873 founded rabbinical seminary in Berlin and in 1938 was also the Rector. During this time he was, despite rejection of the concept in his youth, an important representative of neo-orthodoxy. In 1939 he emigrated from Nazi Germany to Poland. There he was deported by the Germans in 1941 in a concentration camp.

The last twenty years of his life were spent in Montreux, Switzerland.
