Yehudah L. Werner

Yehudah Leopold Werner ( * 1931 in Munich) is an Israeli herpetologist and professor emeritus at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem ( Department of Evolution, Systematics and Ecology ).

His parents and he had to flee in 1935 from Nazi Germany to the British Mandate of Palestine. He became a pupil of Georg Haas (1905-1981), a herpetologist and paleontologist Austrian origin who taught in Jerusalem. In his long scientific career, Werner has published over 400 works, including on the biology of geckos and on the zoogeography and the protection of Middle Eastern reptiles and amphibians.

In addition, Werner described a number of species of amphibians and Reptilientaxa first time or again for science (alone or with co-authors ):
