Yelena Bekman-Shcherbina

Yelena Alexandrovna Beckmann Shcherbina (Russian: Елена Александровна Бекман - Щербина; born December 31 1881jul / January 12 1882greg in Moscow, .. † November 30, 1951 ibid ) was a Russian pianist.

Life

Jelena Beckmann Shcherbina was born in the family Kamenzew. Her mother died a few days after Jelena's birth and the child was brought up by her aunt Elizabeth Shcherbina whose family name she took later in gratitude. In February 1903 she married Leonid Beckmann.

At the age of six she began her piano lessons, first with Valentina Zograph - Plaksina, then with Nikolai Zverev. She attended the Moscow Conservatory, where she was a student of Paul Pabst and after his death by Vasily Safonov. She finished her studies in 1899 with a gold medal. As a thesis, it claimed the entire Well-Tempered Clavier.

Her concert appearance with works by Jean Sibelius brought her a great success. In 1909 she played for the first time in Russia the Piano Works of Maurice Ravel.

In the 1900s she wrote in collaboration with her husband, a cycle of children's songs that appeared only in 1947 and 1949, in press.

1912 to 1918 it operated in Moscow, a school of piano playing. 1921 to 1930 she taught as a lecturer at the Moscow Conservatory. 1942-1943 she was evacuated to Kazan.

On November 26, 1950, she appeared in the portico of the House of Unions on with an anniversary concert for the 50th anniversary of her artistic career.
