In the concert classical European art music are combined with traditional Chinese folk music.

The pianist Yin Chengzong was received shortly after his return from the Soviet Union to China by the Chairman of the Communist Party of China and former President Mao Zedong and inspired by him to create more music in traditional style.

The Yellow River ( Huang He) is regarded by many today as the cradle of Chinese civilization and as a symbol of the spirit of the Chinese people, comparable to the Vltava Smetana 's symphonic poem My Country or known from many German patriotic songs " Father Rhine ".

The Piano Concerto is in view of the serious historical circumstances of great expressiveness and drama created, alternating with contemplative passages, and partly influenced by great pathos. The brilliant virtuoso solo part often dominates the orchestra, similar in some ( late) romantic piano concertos, where the orchestra is relegated to a supporting role:

On the album cover of the recording of the Philadelphia Orchestra is the eclecticism of the composition and to the fact that there is a ( for the Chinese socialism characteristic ) collective composition, ironically noted that it had been written by different composers, including Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Liszt and Rachmaninoff.

As a final apotheosis of the concert the Chinese praise goes to Chairman Mao The East is Red ( Dongfang hong ) in The International about.

" The piano sets the slogans, the orchestra she takes over with revolutionary enthusiasm. "
