Yemenite Association

Hitachdut HaTeimanim beJisra'el (Hebrew התאחדות התימנים בישראל, Russian Ассоциация йеменцев в Израиле, lit. Yemeni unification in Israel) was a political party in Israel.

History

The party was founded in 1923 by Yemenite Jews.

At the first election after the Declaration of Independence on 25 January 1949, the Hitachdut HaTeimanim beJisra'el participated successfully and gained a seat in the first Knesset.

Through the operation Magic Carpet came in the years 1949/1950, many Yemeni Jews to Israel. However Hitachdut HaTeimanim beJisra'el could not win for themselves and for the second elections on 30 July 1951, she won only one seat in the Second Knesset these immigrants.

On September 10, 1951 Hitachdut HaTeimanim beJisra'el united with HaTzionim HaKlaliym ( General Zionists ). Shortly before the elections in 1955, which took place on July 26, to Shimon Garidi separated from the HaTzionim HaKlaliym to reform Hitachdut HaTeimanim beJisra'el. This step was not approved by the Knesset House Committee.

In the elections 1955 the Hitachdut HaTeimanim beJisra'el could not obtain a mandate in the Third Knesset and failed because of the restrictive clause, as well as in the elections in 1959 (as Yemeni group ), 1973 and 1988.

After the merger of HaTzionim HaKlaliym and Miflaga Progresivit on 8 May 1961 to Miflaga Liberalit Jisra'elit ( Liberal Party ), they could achieve their best result with 17 seats in the election in 1961 for the Fifth Knesset. The Miflaga Liberalit Jisra'elit formed with the Herut an alliance under the name Gachal.
