Yentl (film)

Yentl is an American film from the year 1983. It is based on the short story Yentl, the Yeshiva Boy by Isaac Bashevis Singer. Barbra Streisand was in this film producer, director and also took over the lead role. Jack Rosenthal was involved in the script where Streisand also cooperated. The film won an Oscar in the category Best Original Score. The music by Michel Legrand, the lyrics are from Alan and Marilyn Bergman, who had already worked for years with Barbra Streisand.

Action

The film is about the Jewish girl Yentl from Eastern Europe. Her mother died and her father taught secretly in the teachings of the Talmud - which is prohibited by the Jewish faith. After the death of her father, she disguises herself as a man and changes his name to Anshel, to study at a yeshiva, a religious school. She falls in love with a fellow student named Avigdor.

Avigdor plans to marry a girl named Hadass, but will be known that his brother committed suicide, reject him as a son 's parents Hadass.
