Yerlan Sagymbayev

Jerlan Jerlessowitsch Sagymbajew (Russian Ерлан Ерлесович Сагымбаев; born April 5, 1970 in Ust- Kamenogorsk, Kazakh SSR ) is a retired Kazakh hockey player and current coach.

Playing career

Jerlan Sagymbajew began his career in 1988 with Torpedo Ust- Kamenogorsk. In 1989 he moved to SKA Sverdlovsk. In the 1990/91 season he played in Awtomobilist Karaganda. After one season he returned to Torpedo Ust- Kamenogorsk. Further stations were HK Avangard Omsk, Metallurg Novokuznetsk and Sibir Novosibirsk HK. In 1998 he moved back to Kaszink - Torpedo Ust- Kamenogorsk, where he ended his active career in 2000.

1998 Sagymbajew was appointed to the Kazakh national team, and participated at the 1998 Winter Olympics, where he scored a goal in seven games.

Coaching career

In the 2001 /02 season Sagymbajew took over as coach of the second team in the Kazakh team Kaszink - Torpedo Ust- Kamenogorsk. He was promoted to head coach of the first team in 2005, the Sagymbajew coached until 2008. In the season 2008/ 09 he coached the Kazakh team Sary- Arka Karaganda HK. At the same time he became the head coach of the Kazakh national ice hockey team that failed in Oslo in qualifying for the 2010 Winter Olympics. However, from this post, he resigned after the failed qualification in March 2009. Before the season 2009/10 he took over the head - coaching job at Kazakh HK Irtysh Pavlodar.

In the 2012/13 season he was an assistant manager of Vladimir Krikunov in the Kazakh national team and managed with this at the World Championship Division I in April 2013 promotion to the top division.
