Yiannis Papaioannou

Giannis Papaioannou (Greek Γιάννης Παπαϊωάννου, also Yannis; born December 24, 1910 in Kavala, † 1989 in Athens ) was a Greek composer.

Papaioannou studied at the Odeon in Athens and was a pupil of Arthur Honegger. In 1953 he became professor of music theory and composition in Athens, from 1965 to 1975, he led the Greek Society for New Music.

He has composed five symphonies, five Tongemälde and two symphonic poems, a Choreographic prelude, and a triptych for strings, three orchestral suites, an orchestra concert, a piano and a violin concerto, chamber music, piano pieces, cantatas, choral works and songs and incidental music.
