Yomitan (Okinawa)

Yomitan (Japanese読 谷 村, -son ) is a village community in the district Nakagami Japanese Okinawa Prefecture.

Geography

Yomitan located in the western central part of the island of Okinawa Honto and extends across the peninsula of Cape Zampa - (残 波 岬, - misaki ). In the north of the village of Onna borders, in the north- east, the district-free city of Okinawa, in the east and south of the city of Kadena, and in the west, the East China Sea.

History

The area over which extends the current community, originally called Ufunishi for " great north " because they lay in the north of the central Ryukyu Kingdom Chūzan. In the collection of poems Omoro Soshi it emerges as Yontamoza or Yontamuza which later Yuntanja (読 谷 山, also called Yuntanza ) was what was Administrative Region ( majiri ) in Chūzan. These 16 villages - Furugen (古 坚), Gima (仪 间), Hija (比 谢), Iramina (伊 良 皆), Kina (喜 名), Nagahama (长 浜), Namihira (波 平), Owan (大 湾), Senaha (瀬 名 波), Sobe (楚 辺) Takashiho (高志 保), Toguchi (渡 具 知), Tokeshi (渡 庆 次), Uechi (上 地), Uza (宇 座) and Zakimi (座 喜 味), and Makihara (牧 原), Nagata (长 田) and Oyashi (亲 志) that were previously separated from Owan, Iramina or Kina - were 1908 (読 谷 山村, -son ) merged to form community Yuntanja. Culture
