Yosef Azran

Yosef Azran (Hebrew יוסף עזרן ) (* October 19, 1941 in Marrakech, Morocco, † February 10, 2010 in Rishon LeZion ) was an Israeli rabbi and politician.

Life

The Moroccan-born of Azran family came in 1957 in the context of immigration ( aliyah ) to Israel. There he attended high school and a high school Talmud ( yeshiva ). After his ordination as a rabbi at Harry Fischel Institute he did his military service as a rabbi in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF ) and later became director of a teacher training institution in Morocco, and then a Jewish boarding school in Strasbourg.

Upon his return to Israel he served as rabbi in a neighborhood of Jerusalem and worked in the connection manager of the Torah Institute of Ashdod. He then became rabbi of Kiryat Mal'achi, a small town south of Tel Aviv in the hills of the Shephelah, and as such was also the founder and chairman of " Netivot Haim " in Kiryat Mal'achi in Bnei Brak as well.

His political career began on 21 November 1988 with the first elected as a member of the Knesset. There he initially represented the interests of the orthodox party " Shas " and later was an independent member of the Knesset until 17 June 1996. During his deputies work, he was a member of several committees.

Between July 1990 and July 1992, he was Deputy Minister of Finance in the government of Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir.

He was subsequently appointed to June 1996 Member of the Bureau, and the temporary Deputy Speaker of the Knesset ( Deputy Speaker of the Knesset).

Most recently, he was Rabbi of Rishon LeZion, the fourth largest city in Israel. As a rabbi he was also the author of articles and legal interpretations of the traditions of Judaism ( halakhah ) in the newspaper " Nahar - De'ah ".
