Yosef Goldschmidt

Josef Goldschmidt (Hebrew יוסף גולדשמידט, * 1907 in Frankfurt am Main, † 25 July 1981) was an Israeli politician. He was a member of the National Religious Party Knesset member of the 7th Knesset and 1969-1970 Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs.

Life

He attended a yeshiva and studied in Frankfurt am Main, Munich and London, biology, chemistry and geography to become a teacher. 1935 Goldschmidt emigrated to Palestine, where he worked as a teacher. From 1942 to 1948 he worked as a school inspector for the Jewish schools in Palestine, after 1948 he became inspector for the built up of the Mizrachi movement education system of Israel. After Goldschmidt was 1952-1953 deputy head of the Ministry of Education and Culture and took over from 1953 to 1968 head of the department of religious education.

In the elections to the 7th Knesset in 1969 Goldschmidt was a candidate for the National Religious Party. Although he won no seat, he moved on 15 December in 1969 after as a replacement for Josef Burg, who had given up his seat.

Of 22 December 1969 to 16 July 1970 and 19 July 1970 to September 1, 1970, he was Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs. In the elections to the 8th Knesset on 31 December 1973 he was not re-elected.

1973 Goldschmidt ran successfully for the City Council of Jerusalem in 1974 and deputy mayor.
