Yoshinobu Ishikawa

Yoshinobu Ishikawa (Japanese石川 嘉 延, Yoshinobu Ishikawa; * November 24, 1940 in Sazuka, Ogasa -gun (now Kakegawa ), Shizuoka Prefecture) is a Japanese politician and former Governor of Shizuoka Prefecture.

Life and work

Ishikawa graduated in 1964, graduated from the Law Faculty of the University of Tokyo. Subsequently, he was an official in the Ministry of Interior. In 1993 he left the Ministry and successfully ran to succeed the resigning for health reasons Governor Saitō Shigeyoshi. He was re-elected three times after that.

As governor himself Ishikawa sat at the JR Tōkai for a better railway linking the prefecture to the Kantō region and for large projects of infrastructure. He advocated the construction of the new main airport Shizuoka (opening: July 4, 2009 ), but wanted to also carry out a referendum, which was however rejected by the LDP majority in Parliament Prefecture. He campaigned for the construction of a new highway between Tokyo and Nagoya as a relief for the existing Tomei highway, their planning, however, was rejected in 2001 by Prime Minister Koizumi Jun'ichirô.

2002 Ishikawa received national attention after he had received from opponents of the introduction of a national population registration database threatening letters with rifle cartridges. Similar letters were also sent to Prime Minister Koizumi and other governors and mayors.

In March 2009, Ishikawa made ​​in case of late commissioning of the airport Shizuoka his resignation in view. The opening had to be postponed by three months in June 2009 after it was discovered that close standing trees would have to be like, contrary to previous assumptions because of the safety regulations of the Federal Aviation Act. After a re-examination, which confirmed the delay, he submitted his resignation to the President of the Parliament a prefecture on May 19, 2009. He remained until June 17, 2009 at office.
