Yrjö Lindegren

Yrjö Lorenzo Lindegren ( born August 13, 1900 in Tampere, † November 12, 1952 in Helsinki) was a Finnish architect.

1925 closed Lindegren from his architectural studies at the Technical University of Helsinki and founded his own architectural office.

Together with Toivo Jäntti designed Lindegren in the 1930s, the Helsinki Olympic Stadium for the Olympic Games in 1940., The Olympic Games were awarded to Tokyo, the stadium in Helsinki was nevertheless built and opened in 1938. 1938 Tokyo Games were moved to Helsinki before they were completely canceled after the outbreak of the Second World War. Only at the 1952 Olympics, the stadium was actually used as the Olympic Stadium. Even before Lindegren itself was Olympic champion. At the Olympic Games in London in 1948 as part of the art contests its design was awarded for an athletics stadium in Varkaus the gold medal in the category Urban designs. 1937 Lindegren had already won the Grand Prix at the World Exhibition in Paris for architecture.

In the 1940s, Lindegren worked with Alvar Aalto and Viljo Revell on plans for reconstruction in Finland after the Second World War.
