Yuri Burago

Yuri Dmitrievich Burago (Russian Юрий Дмитриевич Бураго, English transcription Yuri Dmitrievich Burago, . Born June 21, 1936) is a Russian mathematician, who (especially differential geometry and convex geometry ) deals with geometry.

Burago studied at Leningrad University and received his doctorate and his habilitation in at Viktor Abramovich Salgaller and Alexander Danilovich Aleksandrov (Russian PhD 1969). He is currently Head of the Department of Geometry and Topology at the Steklov Institute in Saint Petersburg.

His doctoral counts Grigori Perelman, with whom he published in 1992 a review article on Alexandrov spaces with Mikhail Leonidovich Gromov together.

For 2014, the Leroy P. Steele Prize he was awarded for his book with Dmitri Burago and Sergei Vladimirovich Ivanov A course in metric geometry. .

His son Dmitri Burago (* 1964), with whom he also wrote a book, is a mathematics professor at Pennsylvania State University and was also at the Steklov Institute.
