Yuri Kholopov

Yuri Nikolayevich Kholopov (Russian Юрий Николаевич Холопов; * August 14, 1932 in Ryazan, † 24 April 2003 in Moscow) was a Russian musicologist and music theorist.

Life

Kholopov studied at the Conservatory in Ryazan and 1949-1960 with Igor and Sergei Spossobin Bogatyrev at the Moscow Conservatory. In 1963 he became a member of the Union of Soviet Composers. In 1977 he received his doctorate with a thesis on Contemporary Aspects of Harmony in Music of Prokofiev. From 1960 he taught at the Moscow Conservatory and in 1983 Professor ibid. He carried out intensive research to Anton von Webern. His writings include over 1000 pieces. He was a member of the Academia Europaea in London.

Cholopows sister is the musicologist Valentina Cholopowa.
