Yuri (name)
Juri (or Yuri ) is indeed primarily a Slavic male, but also an East Asian female first name.
Origin and Meaning
The male first name comes from a Slavic variant of the first name George, mainly in Russia (Russian Юрий ) Ukraine (Ukrainian Юрій ), is common in the sorbent and in the South Slavic area. George in turn comes from Ancient Greek and means peasant / farmer. Also in the Dutch language area Joeri is a popular first name since the seventies.
The female first name is in Japan (百合/ゆり, " Lily" ) and Korea ( 유리 ) spread. However, this has a different meaning than the Slavic variant. In Korea, originally in use rather as a male first name, he is now also used over Japan rather as a female first name. In Korean, the meaning is dependent on the Chinese spelling of the name in Korean script, it has the same spelling as "glass".
