Yuri Radonyak

Yuri Mikhailovich Radonjak (Russian Юрий Михайлович Радоняк, even Yuri Mikhaylovich Radonyak transcribed; born October 8, 1935 in Grozny, Ingush Autonomous Oblast Checheno -, † March 28, 2013 ) was a Soviet boxer in the welterweight division.

The 1.67 m wide native Chechen trained at CSKA Moscow, in 1958 Soviet runner-up and won the 11th World Military Championships the same year in Lisbon. In 1960 he finally won the Soviet Cup in the same year and took part in the 17th Summer Olympic Games in Rome. He defeated Bruno Guse from Germany, Joseph Lartey from Ghana, Andrés Navarro from Spain and Leszek Drogosz from Poland, before he only lost in the final against Nino Benvenuti of Italy.

In 1962, he finished his career with 197 victories in 226 battles. From 1962 to 1973 he worked as a boxing coach for CSKA Moscow and was subsequently to 1976, head coach of the Boxnationalmannschaft the Soviet Union. Under his coach shaft Soviet boxer won two gold and two silver medals at the World Championships in 1974, and ten gold and four silver medals at the European Championships in 1973 and 1975. Additionally, he managed the Soviet Olympic boxing team at the Summer Games in Munich in 1972 and 1976 in Montreal. The Soviets won two gold, one silver and four bronze. For his achievements he was awarded, among others, in 1997 with the Order of Honored Master of Sports.
