Yuriy Kutsenko

Yuri Mikhailovich Kuzenko (Russian Юрий Михайлович Куценко, English transcription Yuriy Kutsenko, . Born March 5, 1952 in Tawrowo, Belgorod Oblast ) is a former Soviet decathlete.

Only in 1975 he began with the decathlon. In 1978 he was second in the championship behind Soviet Alexander Grebenjuk. At the European Championships 1978 in Prague, he was fifth with ten points behind the Fourth Sepp Zeilbauer, but 230 points behind the third Siegfried Stark. 1979 Kuzenko third in the Soviet Championship. In the final of the European Cup the all-rounder, he was fourth, the Soviet team was ranked 3 behind the GDR and the FRG.

1980 won his only Kuzenko Soviet championship. At the Olympic Games in Moscow, he took on the second day and was the best athlete in the pole vault and 1500m. He won behind Daley Thompson with 8331 points ( 8369 points after valid since 1985 Score ) silver ahead of compatriot Sergei Schelanow. 1982 was ninth Kuzenko the Soviet Championship. In 1984, he finished with a personal best third place at the Soviet Championship. However, because of the Olympic boycott of the Soviet Union, he was unable to attend the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Yuri Kuzenko is 1,90 m tall and weighed 93 kg in his playing days.
