Yusof bin Ishak

Encik Yusof bin Ishak ( born August 12, 1910 at the State of Perak, Malaysia, † 23 November 1970 at Singapore) was from 1965 to 1970 the first President of the independent city-state of Singapore since 1965. Before independence, he was Yang di - Pertuan Negara (Head of State ) of Singapore.

Before the political career he worked as a journalist and founded the newspaper Utusan Melayu.

His portrait is depicted on the front of the current series of the Singapore dollar banknotes.
