Yvonne Mokgoro

Yvonne Mokgoro (born 19 October 1950 Galeshewe in Kimberley ) is a South African lawyer. She was 1994-2009 Judge at the Constitutional Court of the Republic of South Africa.

Education and professional career

Your school education received Mokgoro at St Boniface High School, graduating in 1970. Subsequently, she completed a part-time study at the University of Bophuthatswana, where of the completion BJuris and 1984, the Bachelor of Law degree was awarded in 1982. During her studies she worked as a nurse and saleswoman and eventually got a job in the Ministry of Justice of Bophuthatswana. After completing her undergraduate studies, she was hired as a prosecutor at the District Court of Mmabatho. In 1984 Mokgoro worked as a lecturer at her alma mater, where she rose to the lecturer. In 1992 she moved to the University of the Western Cape and the following year the Human Science Research Council, where she specialized in the field of human rights. At the same time she held in this area lectures at the University of Pretoria. In October 1994 Mokgoro was appointed by Nelson Mandela to the judge at the newly established Constitutional Court. This position she held until 2009. At this time provided for in the Constitution of South Africa maximum duration of the term of office of a Constitutional Court judge of 15 years expired and Mokgoro retired.
