Tsar and Carpenter is a comic opera in three acts by Albert Lortzingstraße who not only composed the music but also his own librettist was. The premiere took place at the Municipal Theatre Leipzig on 22 December 1837. Historical model was a Grand Legation became known journey of Tsar Peter I.

Action

Act I

The Russian Tsar Peter I worked as a journeyman carpenter at the shipyard in Saardam under the name of Peter Mikhailov, in order to become familiar with the techniques of shipbuilding. Admiral LeFort, the Russian ambassador, informed his monarch over riots that erupted in Russia. The situation is serious and requires his presence. Then orders the Czar to prepare his journey home. The location of the Tsar is complicated because the Messenger of England and France, Lord Syndham or Marquis de Chateauneuf, try to identify it and to win for their political goals. In contrast to Chateauneuf, who has realized that Peter Mikhailov is the tsar, Lord keeps Syndham as the mayor Peter Ivanov for the Tsar.

Second Act

The son of the shipyard owner Browe celebrates wedding. Everything rank and name is loaded. Peter Ivanov is pressed by the English ambassador, to take his country with an alliance; Understandably, he comes across however on deaf ears. Suddenly, a Dutch officer with soldiers enters the inn. Act Three
