Žarko Nikolić

Zarko Nikolić ( born October 16, 1938 in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia; † 22 August 2011) was a Yugoslav football player who was with the FK Vojvodina Yugoslav champion. Except for the Yugoslav club he played in the German Bundesliga for FC Schalke 04 and was nine times in the Yugoslav national team to use.

Club career

FK Vojvodina

Nikolić played in his home town of Novi Sad as a teenager in 1952 for FK Vojvodina. With almost 18 years, he made ​​his debut in the first team in a 3-2 victory over Red Star Belgrade. During this time he was still playing on the left side as a forward or inside forward. At the same time Nikolić played in the youth team and a little later in the B national team of Yugoslavia. From 1955 he was, now retrained to -back, regular for Vojvodina and was with the team in 1957 and 1962 runner-up. In the seasons 1963/64 and 1964/65 he came to only a few uses, because he was drafted into the army. After military service, he returned as a midfielder back into the team and was one of the pillars, as the FK Vojvodina in 1966 the Yugoslav championship won. After 226 league appearances for Novi Sad, in which he scored twelve goals, Nikolić changed then in the German Bundesliga.

FC Schalke 04

FC Schalke 04 undertook the 27 -year-old Yugoslavs for the 1966/67 season as a reinforcement after the team had only narrowly avoided relegation. He made his debut on the third season game against 1.FC Nuremberg, came into this season, but only seven other stakes, including the legendary 0:11 defeat at Borussia Moenchengladbach. He played so weak that in Gelsenkirchen " soon believed [ ... ] that it must be around the wrong Nikolić ". National

In the preparation phase for the World Cup Zarko Nikolić was already extended squad for the senior team, but did not go to Sweden. In 1960, he should participate in the Olympic Games, but had to cancel due to injury. On 21 October 1959, he came to his first race in the A- team in a 2-2 draw in and against Israel. His second match was the 5-1 win in Belgrade against Portugal on 22 May 1960 which brought the team to the European Championship finals. In the years 1960 and 1961, he belonged to the tribe of the national team and were further seven stakes, including twice in the playoffs of the World Cup qualifier against South Korea. In Chile, 1962, he was part of the squad but did not play; it remained for him in the team at the nine international matches before the World Cup.
