Zaytuna College

The Zaytuna College (Arabic كلية الزيتونة / Kulliyat az- zaitūna ), formerly known as Zaytuna Institute, is a non- profit educational institution in Berkeley in the U.S. state of California. America's first Muslim liberal arts college was founded by Hamza Yusuf, Imam Zaid Shakir and Hatem Bazian 2009. The aim of this institution is to revive Islamic thought in the context of contemporary society and to strengthen. It is the first Muslim educational institution of its kind in the United States.

It was originally founded as the Zaytuna Institute in California in 1996. In 1998, the location for the Academy in Hayward was purchased. Several conferences were held at the Zaytuna Institute, where many senior Muslim scholars from around the world took part. The Zaytuna College aims as the first Islamic University in the United States to a certification of financial statements that are recognized by the other major educational institutions in the Muslim world, such as the Al -Azhar University in Egypt.
