Zdeněk Škromach

Zdeněk Škromach ( born December 31, 1956 in Hodonín ) is a Czech Social Democratic politician, former Vice Chairman of the CSSD and since 2010 Senator and Vice- President of the Parliament of the Czech Senate.

Career

After an apprenticeship as an electrician, a secondary school and then studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Brno Škromach worked as a foreman in his hometown Hodonín. During this time (1982-1989) he was a member of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. He was elected in the local operation to union president in 1989 and entered 1995, the CSSD, where he is assigned to the party's left wing. In the parliamentary election in 1996 Škromach was first elected to the House of Representatives, which he continuously served until 2010. 2000 to 2001 he was briefly Chairman of the Group of the Social Democratic clubs. In 1997 he was elected Vice Chairman of the CSSD, an office which he held, with brief interruptions until November 2013. In 2005 he competed for the resignation of Vladimir Spidla to the party presidency, but he succumbed to the Acting Chairman and Acting Prime Minister Stanislav Gross. But passed the Voting Gross' to the breakup of the former government.

After the relatively poor performance of the CSSD in the 2013 parliamentary elections Škromach demanded along with other President Miloš Zeman related CSSD - politicians to the first vice chairman Michal Hašek the resignation of party chairman Bohuslav Sobotka. After Sobotka, however, received an unexpected support in the party, presented Škromach on November 7, 2013 its Vice- Chairman post in the CSSD available.

Minister of Labour and Social Affairs

After the 2002 parliamentary elections, he was appointed to the coalition government headed by Vladimír Špidla Minister for Labour and Social Affairs. This office he retained also in 2004 following Government Government of Stanislav Gross, where he also took over the post of first deputy prime minister. After Gross' resignation Škromach was again appointed as Minister of Labour and Social Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister in the government of Jiří Paroubek. After the Social Democrats were no longer involved after the parliamentary elections of 2006 the government also different Zdeněk Škromach out from the government.

Senator

2010 Škromach ran successfully in the constituency his hometown Hodonín for the Czech Senate. He sat down with 37.28 % in the first ballot, or 56.17 % in the runoff election against former Senator Alena Venhodová of the ODS by. Škromach took over after his election, the position of Vice-President of the Senate.

Private

Škromach is married and has two children. The family lives in the community Rohatce near the Moravian town Hodonín.
