Zdeněk Zikán

Zdeněk Zikán ( born November 10, 1937 in Prague, † February 14, 2013 ) was a Czechoslovak football player.

Playing career

Zikán began playing football at Motorlet Prague. 1956 changed the striker to Sparta Prague, but where he remained without a goal and then returned to Motorlet.

Then went to Zikán UDA Praha, there to do his military service, but was soon transferred to Dukla Pardubice, another army club. In Pardubice of the Left Wing came in great shape and shot in the season 1957/58 15 goals.

The good performances earned him the first convocation in the Czechoslovak national team. On April 2, 1958, the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic defeated before 50,000 spectators in Prague, the team of the Federal Republic of Germany 3-2. Kati had scored in the ninth minute game the opening goal for his team.

Finally Zikán for the World Cup 1958 in Sweden was nominated. In three games, the attacker scored four goals. He first met the 2-2 in the group game against Germany. When 6:1 over Argentina, he scored twice. His goal in the playoff against Northern Ireland did not, the Czechoslovaks secreted by a 1:2 out after extra time.

Shortly after the World Cup itself Zikán seriously injured in a friendly match in Varnsdorf and suffered a double broken foot. The striker fell out of the whole season 1958/59. After his return to the place he could never build on his old form. In the season 1959/60 he scored only three goals for Pardubice. In the national Zikán was never called.

After the season changed Zikán at that champion Spartak Hradec Králové, where he spent a total of ten years. His career ended as player-manager of Transporta Chrudim.

2003 Zikán was awarded by the Czech Football Association with the Václav Jira price.
