Ždírec nad Doubravou

Ždírec nad Doubravou ( German Ždírec nad Doubravkou ) is a city in the Czech Republic. It is located eleven kilometers east of Chotěboř at the Doubrava and belongs to Okres Havlíčkův Brod.

Geography

The city is located on the right bank of the west Doubrava Saarer mountains. To the south lie the hills of the Bohemian- Moravian Highlands, North West, close to the foothills of the Iron Mountains. In Ždírec the state road 34 between Havlíčkův Brod and Hlinsko crosses with the 37 between Zdar nad Sázavou and Chrudim and 345 after Habry.

Neighboring towns are Horni Studenec Údavy, Vyhnalov and Stružinec in the north, Kohoutov in the northeast, Krucemburk in the east, Straré Ransko the southeast, Nové Ransko and Hlína the southwest, Sobíňov in the West, as well as Branišov and Podmoklany in the northwest.

History

Ždírec was first documented in 1399. The village was situated on the "via Lubetina ", an ancient connection of Bohemia on Libice nad Doubravou to Moravia.

In 1939 there were about 800 people in Ždírec. On May 9, 1945, the town was largely destroyed in a bombing by Soviet aircraft. After the war, the population dropped to 600 by 1965 they had grown to 1450. In 1951 the official name Ždírec nad Doubravou was introduced to distinguish them from lying in the same localities Ždírec nähreren environment and Ždírec. Since 1995, the municipality performs a coat of arms and banners. Since 19 January 2000, is a city Ždírec nad Doubravou.
