Zdzieszowice

Zdzieszowice [ ˌ ʑd͡ʑɛʃɔvit͡sɛ ] ( German Deschowitz, 1936-45: Odertal OS) is a town of about 12,000 inhabitants in the powiat Krapkowicki, Opole Voivodeship in Poland.

It lies on the Oder between Kędzierzyn -Koźle and Krapkowice.

History

Deschowitz was an old trading center for the Oder shipping. Here the calamine from the Upper Silesian mines stored as well as the products of the ironworks at the Malapane over the Oder and the zoom brought salt.

In the village, which is located five kilometers south-west of St. Annaberg, multiple heavy fighting between the Freikorps, the Black Reichswehr and insurgents took place during the Polish Usurpantenaufstände Wojciech Korfanty 1919-1921.

In 1931 in Deschowitz the coking plant and a power plant of Schaffgotsch works. 1938 nor was added a fuel synthesis plant. 1944 2,100 people were working in these works.

Because of these industrial plants Deschowitz 1944 was the target of heavy air attacks in the second half. By 1945 the place belonged to the Landkreis Groß Strehlitz.

1951, the damage caused by the Second World War were so far removed that production could be resumed.

Zdzieszowice, which was since 1956 town-like settlement received town rights in 1962.

Almost forty years, from 1976 to 2014 headed the German -born politician Dieter Przewdzing (* 1944, † 2014), the town and municipality. He was born in 1989 as a representative of the Polish United Workers Party of administratively appointed community leaders ( naczelnik gminy ) and after the restoration of the church constitution in 1990 until his death mayor to political change. He won five times the mayoral elections in the first round only once in 2010, he had to make the runoff. He was thus the longest reigning mayor in Poland. In his last years, Przewdzing committed for strengthening the economic independence of Polish municipalities and was therefore known nationwide. On February 18, 2014 he was assassinated by unknowns.
