Zeitschrift für die Alttestamentliche Wissenschaft

The Journal of the Old Testament Studies (ZAW ) is a specialized academic theological journal and was founded in 1881 by Bernhard Stade. It deals with theological, linguistic and historical problems of the Old Testament of the Bible.

The magazine is committed since its founding a scientific, historical- critical exegesis traversed. She next appeared in the publishing Töpelmann, Berlin, then in publishing Riecker, casting, now in Walter de Gruyter, Berlin / New York as a print version ( ISSN 0044-2526 ) and online version ( ISSN 1613-0103 ).

The original Protestant -oriented journal is long as interdenominational and published scientific papers Protestant, Catholic and Jewish researcher or by orientalists to the Old Testament in German, English or French. The journal is published annually in four issues. Editors are currently (January 2009) Jürgen van Oorschot and Ernst -Joachim Waschke. Previous editors were like Johannes Hempel, George Fohrer and Otto Kaiser. In addition to essays, there is an overview of recent books and magazines.

As a monograph series, the Beihefte appear at irregular intervals since 1896 to Journal of Old Testament scholarship ( BZAW ), edited by John Barton, Reinhard Gregor Kratz and Markus Witte. Her sister publication is the slightly younger journal New Testament Studies.
