Zenon Nowosz

Zenon Stanisław Nowosz ( born February 6, 1944 in Warsaw ) is a retired Polish athlete who was an international success as a sprinter.

Career

Was Nowosz 1969, 1970 and 1973 Polish Champion in the 100 -meter run, and in 1970 in the 200 -meter run. He also won the national championships in 1973 and 1974 on 60 meters in the hall.

Internationally, he came at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City used where he finished in eighth place with the Polish 4 x 100 - meter relay for the first time. In the 100 -meter run, he left in the flow. In 1969 he was in Belgrade European Indoor champion in the 50 meter dash. In the same year he won in the open air at the European Athletics Championships in Athens behind the Swiss Philippe Clerc and the East Germans Hermann Burde the bronze medal in the 200 -meter run and finished the season in fourth place. In the Indoor Athletics Championships 1970 in Vienna, he was behind Valery Borzov from the Soviet Union in the second 60 - yard dash. The following year he secured at the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki with the 4 x 100 meters relay silver medal in the 100 meters and finished fifth.

Nowosz could qualify for the finals of the 100-meter run at the 1972 Olympics in Munich and finished seventh. With the season he came on the sixth place. The following year he was in Rotterdam European Indoor champion in the 60 meter dash. The European Athletics Championships 1974 in Rome, he finished with the 4 x 100 - meter relay to fifth place. At the Olympic Games in Montreal in 1976, he started in the 200 -meter run, but already retired in the quarterfinal round.

At the end of his career Nowosz succeeded once again a title. The European Athletics Championships 1978, he won jointly with Zenon Licznerski, Leszek Dunecki and Marian Woronin in the 4 x 100 - meter relay.
