Zentrum Paul Klee

The Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern, built according to plans by Renzo Piano, was opened on 20 June 2005. Since November 2011, it is headed by Schaffhauser art historian Peter Fischer as the successor of Ursina Barandun.

The focus of the donated by the surgeon Maurice Edmond Müller cultural institution is the German painter Paul Klee (1879-1940), who spent in Bern just over half of his life. From his extensive oeuvre nearly 10,000 plants were 40 percent, which means about 4,000 paintings, watercolors and drawings, as well as archives and biographical material at the Zentrum Paul Klee be merged. Previously Klee discount at the Kunstmuseum Bern had been stored.

The Zentrum Paul Klee is to be an international center of excellence for research, communication and presentation of the person of the life and work of Paul Klee and its reception. With reference to the diverse artistic activities of Paul Klee the Centre therefore not only limited to the presentation of Klee's pictorial work, but is also a platform for music, theater, dance, literature and interdisciplinary artistic expression. A special feature is the Creaviva in the center.

An exhibition of the work of Paul Klee titled Klee en Cobra. Het begint as a child, was from January 2012 to April 2012 in the Cobra Museum ( Amstelveen, The Netherlands) to see. The exhibition was organized in collaboration with the Zentrum Paul Klee and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.

During the construction of the Paul Klee Centre a total of 4.2 km of steel supports were needed.
