Zenyatta Mondatta is the third studio album by The Police. It was published in October 1980 by A & M Records. The album reached number one on the charts in the UK and number five on the charts in the U.S..

Formation

The album was written while the band was on its second tour. During the four weeks of recording time, the band played a few gigs, such as when Milton Keynes Festival and Ireland. The Police were therefore under some time pressure. The band expressed disappointment later on the album, you 've overdone it:

"We had to ask off more than we Could chew. ... we finished the album at 4 am on the day we were starting our next world tour. We went to bed for a few hours and then traveled down to Belgium for the first gig. It was cutting it very fine. "

For tax reasons, The Police could not record in the UK, as intended. So they opted for the Netherlands, but could bring Nigel Gray as co-producers. After the recordings began a world tour. The song Behind My Camel was awarded a Grammy.

Reception

On the website Allmusic.com Greg Prato wrote that the album was to be with some justification as the best Police album. He also spoke of " one of the best rock albums of all time ," although Sting himself had later seen improvements due to time pressure during the recordings. He forgave five out of five stars.
