Zhang Lianwei

Zhang Lianwei ( born 2 May 1965 in Zhuhai, Guangdong) is a Chinese professional golfer and the first of his country, who could win a tournament on the European Tour.

After the opening of the first golf course in the People's Republic of China in 1984, Zhang began with golf. He worked as a caddy and won three times, the Chinese amateur championships before he began his career as a professional golfer in 1994. He won several tournaments in China and on the Asian Tour and in 2003 the Caltex Singapore Masters, an event which also includes the European Tour. It succeeded Zhang, on the last hole to trap the world-class golfer Ernie Els. This success helped him, as the first Chinese to venture among the top 100 in the World Golf Rankings, and he was also invited to be the first in his country to the famous Masters 2004.

Zhang represented China three times in the Dunhill Cup and six times in the World Cup. He was twice victorious Asian team in the Dynasty Cup and played once in the selection of Asia at the Royal Trophy.
