Zhang Xielin

Zhang Xielin - also Chang Shih -lin (* 1940) is a former Chinese table tennis player and coach with the biggest successes in the 1960s and 1970s. He is a four-time world champion.

Career

Zhang Xielin was defender. From 1961 to 1973 he participated in five world championships. He won in 1963 in Prague a gold medal in doubles by the finals he prevailed with Wang Chih- Liang against the Chinese Zhuang Zedong / Xu Yinsheng. Another title he won in 1971 at the Mixed with Lin Huiqing. He was also in 1963 and 1965 with the Chinese men's team champion. In individual he reached the semi-finals in 1961 and 1963, the finals he came late as 1965 in a double with Wang Chih- Liang and Lin Huiqing Mixed with.

Stir in professional circles aroused his fight against Eberhard Scholer in the quarterfinals of the World Cup 1965. After nearly two hours, he was defeated by the Germans in a time game in the fifth set to 25:27 (see Eberhard Scholer # WM 1965). In 1971, he ended his career as a competitive athlete.

In the ITTF World Ranking 1964 he was out in third. Because of his successes, he was inducted into the ITTF Hall of Fame in 2001.

Coaches and officials

After the end of his active career Zhang Xielin worked as coach of the Chinese women's national team, before he was replaced in 1995 by Lu Yuansheng. In 1979, he became vice president of the Chinese Table Tennis Association.

He lives in Beijing.
