Zhu Guangya

Zhu Guangya (Chinese朱光 亚, Pinyin Zhū Guangya, * December 25, 1924, † 26 February 2011) was a Chinese physicist and significant co-developer of the Chinese atomic bomb and the hydrogen bomb.

Zhu visited the Nanjing University in 1941 and graduated at the Department of Physics at the United Southwest University 1945. 1950 he received his doctorate at the University of Michigan in the United States. He returned in the spring of the same year returned to China and was involved in the research area of nuclear reactors by 1957. Together with Deng Jiaxian and others, he led the development of the Chinese atomic bomb and the hydrogen bomb.

1994 Zhu became the first president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. In 1999 he received an award for his contributions to China's project Two bombs, one satellite.

Zhu was an alternate member of the 9th and 10th Central Committee of Communist Party of China and a member of the 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th Central Committee. In addition, he was a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and served as Chairman of the 8th and 9th Congress of the Political Consultative Conference of the Chinese people.
