Zierker See

The Zierker lake is located on the western outskirts of Neustrelitz and south of the Havel River headwaters. To the south of the lake Zierker over the chamber channel with the Woblitzsee and the Havel is connected. It is named after lying on the lake district Zierke. The lake has a catchment area of ​​about 22.7 km ².

The Zierker lake is part of the 97 -kilometer-long federal waterway Upper Havel Waterway ( OHW ), which begins at the harbor Neustrelitz with 94.41 km and belongs to the waterways of class I; responsible is the Waterways and Shipping Office Eberswalde.

The lake is relatively shallow, muddy and unsuitable for swimming for years. The bathing area formerly located on the eastern shore was closed to bathers and the built environment completely eliminated after 1960. The lake is about 2.6 kilometers long and up to 1.8 kilometers wide. By initially unexplained or later mechanically treated wastewater, which was supplied to the lake, this is highly eutrophic.

The construction of the chamber channel from 1840 performed as an artificial extension of the Gorbaches to 1843, had the lowering of the water level to the sequence so that the average depth is now at 1.6 meters. In the northern area of the lake is Zierker places only two feet deep.
