Zinovios Valvis

Zinovios Zafirios Valvis (Greek: Ζηνόβιος Βάλβης ) (* 1800 in Missolonghi, † 1872 or 1886 in Messolonghi ) was a Greek politician and former Prime Minister.

Valvis was the older brother of former Prime Minister Dimitrios Valvis. He first earned a degree in theology at the Seminary of Halki. Later, a study of the legal sciences at the University of Pisa. During the reign of King Otto I, he was a prosecutor. After he resigned from this post in 1841, he worked as a lawyer. 1849 was finance minister in the cabinets of Konstantinos Kanaris and Antonios Kriezis.

From February 24 to April 9, 1863 and April 28, 1864 to August 7, 1864 he was Prime Minister of the transitional government.

After retirement from politics, he settled in his native town of Missolonghi, where he died in poverty after he refused a proffered state pension because he regarded it as a financial burden on Greece.
