Zishe Breitbart

Siegmund Breitbart ( born February 22, 1893 in Stryków in Łódź, Poland, † October 12, 1925 in Berlin) was a trained wrestler and an artist. He became known as The Iron King. His nationality is unknown as yet.

Life

The devout Jew who was noticed as a child by unusual physical strength, was bought by a wealthy patroness of the Tsarist army and sent on to a short stay in Berlin in the U.S. to be trained there as a wrestler. He also collected suggestions regarding his later appearances.

Back in Berlin, he was a gladiator armor together with a "golden" helmet finished and turned as The Last Gladiator with fanfare a quadriga in the ballrooms or in the arena. He amazed the audience by brought horseshoes broke not only of viewers but during his performance even forged one - from cold iron, and only with the help of his fists. He also had large stones fall on his head and drove a total of thousands to be counted nails into his body.

Breitbart zweiunddreißigjährig died of blood poisoning after he had accidentally driven at a performance of a steel bolt in the foot and the wound subsequently ignited. He was buried on the Adass Yisroel Cemetery in Berlin- Weissensee. His funeral led to some chaos as this little cemetery was not prepared for the large number of mourners. The funeral of the iron king was held by several camera crews for posterity.

Movies

There should have been some footage of Breitbart's performances. However, has received only the silent film The Iron King by 1923.

In 2002 appeared " Invincible / Invincible ", a film by Werner Herzog. Instead of showing the competition between Breitbart and the conjurer Hanussen who had copied the show of the iron king in 1924, the plot of the film was transferred to 1932 to as a Jewish hero afterwards the Jewish Nazi sympathizers Hanussen and the emerging Nazi Party Breitbart in to bring connection. Since the real Breitbart for seven years, however, was dead

The producer of this film is Gary Beard, a grandnephew of iron king, who wanted to put his great-uncle, a monument and this work is accompanied by a publicist with the authority of the offspring. Although the film flopped at the box office, attended some biographical film adaptations to date for plenty of confusion. Not even the birthplace Stryków (Source: Gary Bart ) is secured, his birth year was moved into the year 1883 by Gary Bart. In contrast, the community Friedrichsthal claims in which he lived, that he was also born there.

It is quite possible that ( in the film Zishe ) called him his circle of friends Sischa ( Zisha ). His Christian as Jewish Berlin audience knew him in any case as the iron king, and under this name he also went into the history of Berlin.
