Zits

Zits (English for pimples) is the title of a comic strip by Jerry Scott and Jim Borgman, which was started in 1997. It deals with the problems of everyday life of an American teenager.

Characters

The main character is the 15 -year-old Jeremy Schulze ( in English Jeremy Duncan ). His parents have his opinion, no understanding of all important and "cool" things in life. His brother is not only older and perfect in everything, he has also been the beard that will not sprout at Jeremy. Jeremy is in a band, but can not decide on their next purchases, microphone or fog machine, yet the band name itself; usually it is called " goat cheese pizza".

Lisa ( in English Sara ) is mostly Jeremy's girlfriend, even though there are always extended periods of time in the comics, where they are always isolated on Lisa's request,. Lisa is a year older than Jeremy and has been their driver's license.

Roberto ( Hector in English ) is Jeremy's best friend, with whom he wants to repair an old VW in order to drive across the state. Until then, they shall, inter alia as a lifeguard, which sees Jeremy's mother as a good chance to take on responsibility. Jeremy and Roberto see it rather as a way look up girls. He also plays in the band " goat cheese pizza".

Pierce is an unusual friend of Jeremy, which is taken as an excellent drummer later in the band. Pierce has piercings all over her body and is able to recognize their breakfast on the basis of bad breath a person. He's a good buddy and also sometimes shows his sentimental side. He also is a member of the band " goat cheese pizza".

Karin and Hajo ( in English Conni and Walt ) try their best to be good parents, but it is hard for them to be Jeremy's standards of justice. He would prefer that they would keep their distance, but his parents want to do something every weekend with him. Hajo is an orthodontist and also treated and Lisa Pierce, Karin is a child psychologist.

Phil ( in English Chad ) is four years older brother of Jeremy. It's perfect on the College and from the perspective of Jeremy's parents. He is pimple free and constantly has a grade point average of 1.0. He also plays basketball perfectly and is president of the Student Parliament. All believe that he will be times successfully.

Publication

The comic strip appeared in 1997 in over 200 American newspapers, it is distributed by King Features Syndicate. Meanwhile, the strips appear in over 1500 newspapers and translated, among others, into Spanish, Portuguese, Finnish and Chinese.

The comic strip also appears on German. The translation of the American series with respect to names and places inconsistent. Some of them have been Germanized, but sometimes not again.

In the U.S., also have been published twelve anthologies, each with strips of one year. Ten of the volumes have been published in German on a roller coaster publisher.

Awards

The author Jerry Scott received the Reuben Award for Zits 2001, the National Cartoonists Society. In 2000, the comic was awarded internationally with the Max and Moritz Prize for Best Comic Strip.
