Zoilo Saldombide

Zoilo Saldombide (* March 18, 1905 (other sources give March 23, 1906 as date of birth ) in Santa Lucía, † 4 December 1981 ) was a Uruguayan football player.

Club career

Saldombide who lived his entire life in his native town of Santa Lucía, played in his home from 1924 to 1929, first for the Wanderers. There he came both as a right winger and as a left winger for use. In the years 1930-1934 he was at Nacional, for which he had participated in the tour of Central and North America in 1927, under the contract, where it is more likely the left side of the field assigned. In the latter club he was in 1933 and 1934 respectively Uruguayan champion and completed a total of 182 games in which he scored 45 goals.

National

The striker was a member of the Uruguayan national football team. In total he completed for his home country of his debut on 10 December 1922 until his last mission on September 21, 1928 15 international matches, where he met three times into the opposing goal. During this time won with the Uruguayan selection the gold medal at the Summer Olympics in 1924., He also belonged to the each victorious squad in the two tournament victories of the South American Championship in 1924 and 1926. The 1928 Olympic Games he missed because of his entrance exam at the Banco Hipotecario. However Saldombide, who had already for two years not played international match, was at the Football World Cup 1930 again part of the squad that has secured the world title in the initial staging of this event. To use it, however, never came.
