Zuberec

Zuberec (Hungarian Zuberec, Polish Zuberzec ) is a municipality in the north of Slovakia. It lies at the foot of the Western Tatras in the landscape Arwa near the Polish border, about 19 ​​km away from Tvrdošín.

The village was first mentioned in 1593 as Zwberczyc. The name is derived from the Slovak designation of the European bison ( Zubor ). At the local picture can still be good the settlement structure as Waldhufendorf recognize: the fields were originally a strip directly behind the individual farmsteads. The Open Air Museum Museum of Orava village located 4 km east of the village. At the open-air museum takes place every year the widely known beyond the region folklore festival with carnival on the first weekend in August.
