The Zurich University of Applied Sciences ( CFH ) is the largest of the nine Swiss colleges with about 19,000 students. It is, according to the University of Zurich and before the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland, the second largest university in Switzerland. It consists of four sub- schools:

  • HWZ - School of Business Zurich
  • PHZH - Zurich University of Teacher Education
  • ZHAW - Zurich University of Applied Sciences
  • ZHdK - Zurich University of the Arts

The ZHAW, ZHdK and PHZH are governmental, which has a half-life private sponsorship.

History

Predecessor institutions of the CFH - part schools

Originally, the following higher vocational schools should get the polytechnic status and be integrated into the ZFH:

  • Winterthur Technical Engineering School TWI
  • Zurich Higher Economic and Administrative School HWV Winterthur
  • School of Design Zurich
  • Zurich Conservatory
  • Winterthur Conservatory
  • Swiss Professional Ballet School
  • Jazz School
  • Acting Academy Zurich
  • School of Social Work Zurich SSAZ
  • Higher College of Sociocultural Animation
  • Institute (Department ) of Applied Psychology Zurich IAP
  • Dolmetscherschule Zurich DOZ
  • Special Education Seminar Zurich
  • Center for Executive Education Zurich
  • School of Engineering Wädenswil ISW
  • Zurich School of Engineering ( Evening pilot )
  • Higher Business School Zurich ( Evening SEBA)

Many of these schools were forced to merge with other schools in order to meet the conditions for the polytechnic status (number of students and courses).

1998-2007

In 1998, the EHA was founded. It consisted of the following 8 or 9 part of schools to 2007:

  • HMT - University of Music and Theatre
  • HGKZ - College of Art and Design Zurich
  • HSSAZ - School of Social Work Zurich
  • HAP - School of Applied Psychology
  • HSZ - University of Applied Sciences, Business and Administration Zurich, with the following areas of study: Technology ( HSZ- T), later College of Technology Zurich ( HSZ- T)
  • Business and administration ( HSZ- WV), later School of Business Administration Zurich ( HWZ)

Development since 2007

Because of the new University Education Act of 2007, two new public universities were founded:

  • ZHdK - Zurich University of the Arts (fusion of HGKZ and HMT)
  • ZHAW - Zurich University of Applied Sciences (fusion of ZHW, HSW, HAP and HSSAZ )

Thus the ZFH was between 2007 and 2011 from the state universities ZHAW, ZHdK and PHZH and private universities HSZ -T and HWZ.

As of 1 January 2012, the HSZ -T was kantonalisiert and integrated into the ZHAW.
