Zurich 1953 chess tournament

The Zurich Candidates Tournament in 1953 was the second candidate of the tournament world chess federation FIDE, and found from August 29 to October 24 in Zurich and Neuhausen as doppelrundiges tournament with fifteen participants. To participate, players of places had one to eight of interzonal tournament Saltsjöbaden qualified in 1952. Also, were eligible David Bronstein as losers of the competition to the World Chess Championship 1951, players at positions two to five of the candidates tournament Budapest in 1950, and Max Euwe and Samuel Reshevsky as other participants in the World Chess Championship 1948.

Vasily Smyslov won with a two -point lead and was granted the right in the chess world championship 1954 world champion Mikhail Botvinnik challenge.
