1963 World Wrestling Championships
The Wrestling World Championships 1963 were held in contrast to all previously transmitted World Championships in style separately at different locations instead. The wrestlers were divided into eight weight classes.
The Soviet Union won the most medals with a total of eight gold, four silver and one bronze medal. Alexander Medved who celebrated his second world title after 1962. Imre Polyák was a year after his World Cup win in 1963 only second behind Gennadi Sapunov.

The competitions in free style took place from May 31 to June 2, 1963 in Sofia instead. The wrestlers from the Soviet Union secured in seven of the eight competitions medals. Wilfried Dietrich was in fourth place in the heavyweight ( 97 kg ) best German.
