1982 World Aquatics Championships

The 4th World Swimming Championships were held from 29 July to 8 August 1982 in the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil instead.

The World Swimming Federation ( FINA) awarded the event in April 1981 at the edge of a conference in Sydney. The application of Guayaquil sat down in the second round 8-4 against the candidacy of Montreal through. Prior to Concord and Santa Clara had both retired from the United States their applications because of financial difficulties.

Venues were the stadium Alberto Vallarino ( swimming) with a capacity of 10,000 spectators, the stadium Asisclo Garay ( synchronized swimming ) and the stadium La Pradera ( Art and diving ).

Swimming

For the first time at the World Championships so-called B- finals were played. During the eight fastest time in the heats contest the final, start the second best in the heats in the B-final.

The prelims started daily at 9.00 clock local time, the final on the same day at 19.00 clock, on 7 August at 18.30 clock.

Final on 3 August 1982 In the run- Jörg Woithe presented with 49.60 on a new European record.

200 m Freestyle

Participants: 53 swimmers Finale on 1 August 1982 In the run- Michael Gross presented with 1:49,55 on a new European record. Germany Democratic Republic in 1949 Dirk Richter eliminated in the lead after 1:55,81.

Final on 5 August 1982 Sven Lodziewski presented with 3:51,84 on a new DDR record.

Final on August 2, 1982 Germany Democratic Republic in 1949 Andreas Reichel was in the B-final with 4:34,90 and fifth in the overall standings Thirteenth. Jens -Peter Berndt presented in the flow with 4:25,31 on a new DDR record he improved again to 4:23,02 in the final.
